Boats and Birds

She sighed and nodded to him. "Okay....please don't drop him." She was his momma and she worried. Mike looked between the two of them "Does anyone care what I want?"

"Of course I do." Alex looked down. "I just wanted to carry you." He blushed.

Mike grinned and then walked closer to Alex and opened his arms. "Kay, then carry me."

"Yay." Alex smiled and lifted Mike up into his arms.

Mike gave a small giggle as he was carried. His small hands clutched the back of Alex's shirt. Soon they were taken to a room where they were told to wait for the doctor.

Alex frowned. He didn't want to put Mike down.
He sighed but sat him down on the bed.

Soon a nurse was in to draw a blood sample and give Mike a shot. He watched as she tired his arm up, then sanitized it, then stuck the needle in, then he watched as the blood filled the tube on the needle. He watched as she made hin lie on his back so she could give him one in the stomach. She did the same to the stomach but instead injected him with something. Mike's face twisted in pain as she gave him one in the belly, his small arm already beginning to bruise.

Alex frowned. He didn't like watching his new friend hurt like that.

Soon she was done but he didn't move. His momma stroked his hair. "Are you okay sweet heart?" Mike nodded. "It hurt though..."

Alex frowned.
"It's okay." Alex cooed, stroking Mike's hair.

Mike smiled at him. "Told ya you wouldn't want to be here for this stuff."

"I do want to be here though. I wanna make you feel better." Alex smiled.

Mike smiled and soon the doctor walked in. Mike sat up and braced himself for bad news. His small legs hung off the side of the bed as he hugged himself.
"Ma'me, he will need a heart transplant. His heart is too weak and without one his heart will give out," Mike swallowed, he knew what that meant. The doctor continued. "It would take forever to find a heart doner and even if he did.....the bill is 50,000 dollars." Mike sighed, it was over.

Alex's face fell. He's just met this boy and now he was going to die. He looked down.

the women burst into tears. Mike looked suprised and hugged his mother with small weak arms. "It okay momma."

Alex's lower lip trembledd he felt as if he would cry too.

"Momma don't cry." Mike was used to this and he had expected it. He wanted to cry but he had to be strong of his momma and his new friend.

Alex toddled over and gave Mike a small hug.
"I'm sowwy." He frowned.

Mike paused. "Its okay Alex," He replied gently, he guessed that since he was dying Alex wouldn't want to hug him or hold his hand anymore.

Alex opened his arms.
"Huggles make it better?"

"You still want to hug me?....." Earlier Alex wouldn't even speak to him. He was weak and small but all of a sudden Alex is interested in him. "I don't want you to feel like you have to, I don't want you to talk to me just because you feel bad for me."

"That't not why. I like you."Alex smiled.

Mike sighed. "Then give me a hug." He jumped down from the bed into Alex's arms. "I don't want to die." He whispered.

ALex frowned and hugged Mike tightly.
"I odn't want you to die."

"Is it okay for me to be scared?" He asked, nuzzled the crook of Alex's neck.
