I See You Not

Nolee ran her hands through her hair. There had to be something that she could do. Anything was better than just letting that young man lay in there.

John kept pulling at his shackles. They hurt, and always cut into his wrists. He thought about yelling but knew it wouldn't do any good. He sighed and just laid there.

Nolee got up, grabbing the keys off the keyring that unlocked the patients shackles. She hoped no one saw her as she headed off to Johnny's cell.

John looked at his door when he heard the jingling of keys behind it. But he figure it was for another patients door. He rested his back against his cold, dirty mattress.

Nolee unlocked the door and entered the room, disgusted with the sight she saw. "I'm gonna get you out of those," she promised.

John just blinked at her, a little confused. But he went with it. "Okay." He said quietly.

Nolee walked over to him, unlocking the shackles. "That will never happen again, mark my words."

John didn't answer, he just sat up and immediately pulled his knees to his chest. "It's cold.." He whispered. "Always so cold..."

Nolee smiled, getting one of the blankets she had brought in her purse out so that he could cover up, "I know it's not heat but does this work?"

John didn't answer, he just tugged the blanket tight around himself. "They wanna move me to Ward C..." He murmured. ((Yes, i totally stole that from Shutter Island))

"What's in Ward C, John?" Nolee asked, sitting next to him. ((XD Nice))

"The most dangerous patients... most unstable. The one's that they can't fix..." John murmured.

"That's a lie, anyone can be fixed." Nolee snorted. "I...I was in a hospital in France once..." she admitted. She didn't know why she did, but she did. This man wouldn't care...would he?

"Do you know... why I'm here?" John asked, Nolee's statement registering in his mind but he decided not to ask.

"They say you see faces, you told me you see faces. But I don't know that much about you," Nolee said.

"I killed 7 people... at least that's what they say." John said, fidgeting his hands. "I remember some of it... 3 kids part of the Nazi acadamy... and 4 people because they said Heil Hitler..." He whispered, twitching slightly as he remembered.

"Well, if your chart is correct and you were an officer in the Army, it was your job. Sometimes we do what is expected of us, even if it's wrong..." Nolee softly said.

"I it them on fire." John murmured. "I had been discharged when that happened." He whispered. "They say I... brought each body back to their homes and that I... told the parents of the children that they had been suspended."

Nolee closed her eyes, sick with what she had just heard. She turned away, "They deserved it." And after what they had done to her brother...they did.

"They were kids..." John murmured, playing with his shirt. "They said I attacked the judge in the courtroom... that I snapped." He murmured, glancing at his cell walls. They had writing in Johns blood on then. Some words were nothing, some words were somethings.

Nolee closed her eyes. She had to keep calm, not let John see her cry or cringe. It was this part of her job that she had troubles with.

John looked down. :I tried to kill myself... they won't let me... they wanna give me a lobotomy if they fail... what's a lobotomy?" He asked, cocking his head to the side.

Nolee shook her head, "It doesn't matter what it is. Just know that they will do nothing without my permission. Okay John?"

John nodded and looked down. "U-Um... thank you." He whispered, resting his head on his knees.

Nolee smiled, "Anything else you want to ask me dear?"
